The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released the results of this year’s Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates.
Speaking in Lagos, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria office, Amos Josiah Dangut, said one-point-two million candidates passed with credits in at least five subjects, including English and Maths, representing a pass rate of 61.54 percent. Dangut said that figure is down slightly from last year by 1.42 percentage points.
Of the nearly two million candidates who sat the exam between April and June, WAEC withheld more than one hundred and sixty-seven thousand results, citing exam malpractice, including the use of mobile phones in exam halls, despite an existing ban.
The council says candidates can check their results online within twelve hours, with hard-copy certificates ready in ninety days.
