Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially presented the staff of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Abimbola Akeem Owoade. The event took place on Monday morning at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, marking the formalisation of Owoade’s reign.
The presentation ceremony comes nearly three years after the death of the former Alaafin, Lamidi Adeyemi III, and follows weeks of controversy over the selection of the new monarch. Governor Makinde reiterated the significance of the Alaafin’s position, not only for Oyo but for the entire Yoruba race.

During the event, Makinde expressed his commitment to transparency in the selection process, stating that his administration refrained from interfering in the choice of the new monarch. He congratulated Alaafin Owoade, wishing him a prosperous reign that would bring peace and progress to Oyo and the broader Yoruba community.
In his address, Alaafin Owoade pledged to focus on the development of Oyo Town, the state, and the nation, thanking the Governor, the Oyomesi, and all those involved in his selection.
