Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has said that a recent military airstrike in the North-Western state, which resulted in civilian casualties, was unintentional.
Speaking during an interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, Governor Lawal revealed he was aware of the military operation prior to the incident. He also said that he had personally requested Air Force intervention to target bandits attacking the area. However, in the course of the operation, Community Protection Guards, CPG, were inadvertently struck.

The airstrike, which occurred on January 11, devastated the Tungar Kara community in Maradun Local Government Area, claiming the lives of more than 16 residents. The tragedy sparked widespread public outcry.
In response, the Nigerian Air Force dispatched a fact-finding team to investigate the incident. The team held discussions with Governor Lawal at the Government House in Gusau on Tuesday, as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.
