A Nigerian Army soldier and a police officer have been killed during an operation that rescued nine abducted civilians in Zamfara State.
The Army said troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled an attempted terrorist attack on their Forward Operating Base at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area before pursuing the fleeing attackers.
During the operation, troops rescued nine residents who had been abducted from nearby communities. The Army said one soldier and one police officer died in the firefight, while two other soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted for treatment.
Military authorities said the attackers suffered heavy casualties, although that claim has not been independently verified. The Army pledged to sustain operations against armed groups and strengthen security across the North-West.
