Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has expressed gratitude to veteran artist Seyi Sodimu for allowing her to sample his 1997 classic ‘Love Me Jeje’ in her Grammy-winning track of the same title.
Tems’ Love Me Jeje secured the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, triumphing over Yemi Alade’s ‘Tomorrow’, Asake and Wizkid’s ‘MMS’, Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ featuring Davido and Lojay, and Burna Boy’s ‘Higher.’

Reflecting on the achievement, Tems described Sodimu’s original as a timeless classic and thanked him for granting permission to use the sample. She noted that she was pleased to see the song receiving renewed recognition through her reinterpretation.
