Tems is set to perform alongside Stevie Wonder and John Legend at the official opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Thursday, a day after Nigerian artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby unveiled the official portrait of former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama for the centre.
The centre, a landmark venue combining a museum, library, and educational hub, will also host community spaces, conference facilities, and the nonprofit Obama Foundation.
Barack Obama announced the lineup in an Instagram reel, confirming performers including Bono and The Edge, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Common, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, Marc Anthony, producer Marsai Martin, and The Roots.
Michelle Obama reflected on the site’s transformation in a separate Instagram post, stating that the opening of the Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago is truly a full circle moment, as so much of her existence as a child into high school was driving past that very location where there was really nothing.
