Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Asake Lose at BET Awards

Despite multiple nominations, Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems and Asake failed to win at the 2026 BET Awards held on Sunday at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Druski and celebrated achievements across music, film, television and sports.

Tems received three nominations but lost in all her categories, although she delivered a live performance during the ceremony. Wizkid and Asake missed out on the Best Group award, while Burna Boy’s collaboration with Gunna was beaten in the Best Collaboration category.

American singer and actress Teyana Taylor emerged as one of the biggest winners, taking home the Icon of the Year honour, Best Actress, Video Director of the Year and the inaugural Fashion Vanguard Award. Rap duo Clipse also won three awards, including Album of the Year and Best Group.

Other winners included Kendrick Lamar, who claimed Best Male Hip-Hop Artist for a record ninth time, Kehlani, who won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year, while Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor and the film ‘Sinners’ was named Best Movie.
