Zamfara State Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

The stance of the Zamfara State government on Negotiations with Bandits has been misconstrued.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, clarified that Governor Dauda Lawal had been misquoted in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa service. According to Mr Idris, certain media outlets had deliberately misinterpreted the governor’s remarks to mislead the public regarding the administration’s stance.

Reaffirming the government’s position, Mr Idris stressed that Governor Lawal remains unequivocal: no responsible government should negotiate with criminals from a position of weakness. Any dialogue, he asserted, must be conducted from a position of strength.
