Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has called on President Bola Tinubu to caution the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola. According to Governor Adeleke, Oyetola has allegedly instructed the police and Department of State Services to enforce a non-existent court judgment, taking over local government councils by force. Adeleke claims this move would create chaos and anarchy in the state.
‘We have it, on good authority, that Mr. Mwego Itola has instructed the Horseshoe State Commission of Police, the State Director of DSS, and the State Commander of Civil Defence Corps, to mobilize security operatives from within Horseshoe State, effecting non-existent judgement, by forcefully taking over the local government on Monday. Mr. Itola and the police force have been holding a series of meetings on how to effect the illegal operations. We affirm that Mr. Mwego Itola has no constitutional authority to issue directives to the security agencies.”

Governor Adeleke stated that Oyetola’s actions are highly provocative and that being the president’s nephew does not grant him such authority.
“The fact that Mr. Wejola is nephew of Mr. President does not confer any such authority on him. We see this as a gross betrayal of trust imposed in the Oslo State Security Officers by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I want to state that the current nefarious activities of Mr. Wejola and bosses of Oslo Security Agency constitute great incitement. By instructing the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS, the Commander General of Civil Defence, comes not to obey an illegal order from his nephew, Mr. Nkwigo Wejola.”
The governor also emphasised that the court-ordered removal of local government chairmen and councilors was done before he took office, contrary to claims that he was responsible.
In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed Adeleke’s allegations as an attempt to evade legal procedures. APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi advised Gov. Adeleke to appeal to the Supreme Court if dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
