Aviation Minister Denies Report on Enugu Airport Concession Agreement

Aviation Minister Denies Report on Enugu Airport Concession Agreement

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has dismissed media reports suggesting the federal government has agreed on a concession duration for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

In a statement released on Monday by his media aide, Tunde Moshood, the minister described the report as false, clarifying that while proposals from interested concessionaires have been received, no decision has been finalised.

The clarification follows the suspension of flight operations by Air Peace over infrastructural issues at the airport, which prompted the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to shut down the facility for emergency runway repairs.

Keyamo acknowledged that concessions are being considered for five major airports due to rising operational costs, but stressed that all proposals are still under review and must pass through due process before any approval is given. He added that aviation unions have been included in the ongoing negotiations for transparency.
