The death toll from recent attacks on rural communities in Benue State has climbed to 72, following the discovery of additional bodies in the Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas.
Authorities confirmed that 13 more victims were recovered from nearby bushlands, days after Governor Hyacinth Alia initially reported 59 deaths during his Easter address in Makurdi on Sunday.

The update was provided by Isaac Uzaan, Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Content Creation, who noted that the latest discoveries were made in both localities affected by the violence.
The attacks, which occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday, targeted several settlements in the restive Sankera axis—an area encompassing Ukum, Logo, and Katsina-Ala LGAs. Residents have been left reeling in the aftermath, as security agencies continue efforts to stabilise the region and account for the missing.
