Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to launch what he called “powerful strikes” across Gaza, following what he described as a violation of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire by Hamas. The militant group had reportedly fired on Israeli forces in southern Gaza and delayed the return of a hostage’s body.
Associated Press journalists reported tank fire and explosions in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah, with further strikes near Shifa Hospital. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Hamas would “pay a heavy price” for breaching the truce and attacking Israeli soldiers.

Prime Minister Netanyahu condemned Hamas’s actions as a “clear violation” of the agreement requiring the prompt return of all remaining hostages. The renewed violence has raised fears that the fragile ceasefire could collapse entirely.
