US Middle East negotiator Jared Kushner met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday, pressing Israel to accept a 15-point US-backed road map for Gaza that Netanyahu recently rejected.
The meeting, also attended by Tony Blair and Board of Peace director Nickolay Mladenov, followed Kushner’s two-hour Sunday talks in Egypt with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, joined by Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators.
Hamas says it has accepted the plan, including disarmament, and wants Israel compelled to sign on too. Netanyahu faces an October 27 election and continued pressure over the war’s next phase.
