Katsina Family of Five Dies in Early-Morning House Fire in Kofar Sauri Katsina State

A family of five have died in a fire in the Kofar Sauri community in Katsina State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, destroying most household items beyond recognition.

Sources from the area said the fire followed the restoration of electricity, with an unusual surge suspected to have triggered the blaze. Residents noted that the local power company often restores electricity late at night and at unusually high voltage. Others suggested that strong harmattan winds, which have increased across the state in recent days, may have worsened the fire.

Some locals have called on security agencies to investigate the incident to rule out the possibility of sabotage.

The bodies of the deceased — a man, his wife, and three children — have been taken to the hospital and are expected to be buried later on Monday according to Islamic rites. Police and fire services have not yet released further information.
