Security forces repel attack in Katsina; 40 bandits dead

Joint security forces in Katsina State repelled a large-scale bandit attack on Guga Village, Bakori LGA, killing more than 40 attackers, though five local hunters also died.

Commissioner for Internal Security Nasir Mu’azu said over 200 bandits, led by notorious kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki and reinforced by the Ado Aleru group from Zamfara, attacked around 5:40 pm on Sunday, aiming to dislodge local hunters and the Community Watch Corps before targeting Bakori town. Intelligence-led resistance forced the attackers to retreat, with about eight senior commanders killed and Aiki reportedly sustaining life-threatening injuries.

The five hunters killed were caught off the frontline while shopping. Mu’azu said the attack followed an earlier bandit defeat at nearby Dawan Laila on July 7, calling it a “desperate attempt” to regain lost ground against Katsina’s community-based security model.
