Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has raised concern over the worsening insecurity in the state, warning that the crisis now threatens the stability of the entire Northern region. He said the situation in the North-West has far-reaching implications for food security, community resilience and national sovereignty.
Governor Lawal noted that Zamfara remains the epicentre of banditry, suffering rising killings, mass abductions, highway attacks, displacement and growing public fear. He added that the state’s position as a transit base for criminal groups makes neighbouring states like Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger equally vulnerable.
He rejected any unregulated peace talks with bandits, insisting that only coordinated, state-led and intelligence-driven engagements can work. According to him, criminal networks now operate across borders, expand revenues through ransom and illegal mining, and exploit forest corridors.

Lawal called for a joint regional security framework, integrated intelligence units, synchronised operations, protection of schools and farms, and stronger regulation of illegal mining.
