Legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is set to make history as he will be honoured at the Grammy Awards. The announcement was made by the CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr.
Fela will receive a special merit award recognizing his lifetime influence on music and his role as a pioneer of Afrobeat. The Recording Academy described him as an “architect of Afrobeat” whose work transformed the genre and inspired generations of artists around the world.

Organisers said the honorary award will be part of the 2026 Grammy celebrations. The recognition follows other posthumous honours for Fela and reflects his enduring global legacy.
