Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti says his family refused offers to sell the music catalogue of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, in order to preserve his legacy.
Speaking in an interview, Femi Kuti said the catalogue remains under the control of Fela’s estate, managed by the family, although it has been licensed to foreign companies at different times. He stressed that the arrangement ensures continued royalties for the family.
He explained that his elder sister, Yeni Kuti, strongly opposed any move to sell the catalogue, describing her as highly protective of their father’s legacy. He said the family collectively agreed with her position.
