Six members of a family have been found dead inside their residence at Ogale Eleme community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. The bodies were discovered on Sunday after police operatives forced open the door of the apartment at about three o’clock in the afternoon.
The Rivers State Police Command said preliminary investigations suggest the deaths may have been caused by generator fume poisoning. The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the generator was allegedly left running in the parlour while the occupants went to sleep, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
The deceased were identified as Theophilus Obele, his wife Eunice Obele, their children Saka, Peace and Nyimenka Obele, and Abel Nwaka. The bodies have been deposited at the Last Home Mortuary in Ebubu Eleme for autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, ordered a thorough investigation and advised residents to always place generators outdoors in well-ventilated areas.
