The African Democratic Congress has criticised President Bola Tinubu for signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law, describing the move as a threat to credible elections in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party questioned the speed of the president’s assent on 18 February and alleged that the amendments could undermine transparency in the collation and transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ADC said the changes introduce ambiguity and excessive discretion into the electoral process. It also cited the National Assembly’s decision to reduce the notice period for general elections from 360 days to 300 days.

The party said it would mobilise Nigerians to defend the democratic process through constitutional and lawful means. The amendment was signed days after the Independent National Electoral Commission released the timetable for the 2027 general election.
