United Nigeria Airlines says it will not immediately increase airfares despite the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices. Jet A1 now sells for between about N1,800 and N1,852 per litre at airports in Lagos, Abuja and Kano.
The price of aviation fuel has surged in the past week, rising from about N900 per litre in late February. Industry operators say the increase has placed significant financial pressure on airlines.
The Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Osita Okonkwo, says aviation fuel remains the largest cost component in airline operations. He noted that the sudden rise in price has worsened the operating environment for local carriers.

Despite the situation, the airline says raising ticket prices could further reduce passenger traffic, which is already low. The airline is calling for urgent intervention to stabilise fuel prices and support the aviation sector.
