The Independent National Electoral Commission says there is no verified forensic evidence linking its Chairman, Joash Amupitan, to an alleged pro-All Progressives Congress post on X. The commission was responding to claims that the chairman made a partisan statement on the platform during the 2023 general elections.
INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Lawrence Bayode, said in a monitored interview that investigations so far have not established any direct link to the post. He added that the matter has been referred to security agencies and will also be examined by a third-party forensic expert.
Bayode said the commission is conducting both internal and external reviews and will not rely on screenshots alone in reaching a conclusion. He also noted that digital impersonation and manipulation of online content remain possible risks.
