At least 18 people have been killed in an attack by armed bandits on Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The assault took place on Friday night when more than 80 gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on residents.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Mahmud Dantawasa, confirmed the deaths and said several others were injured. Residents reported that the attackers stormed the community at about 9 p.m., shooting sporadically and causing panic.
Governor Dauda Lawal has condemned the killings, describing the attacks on Bunkasau and nearby communities as senseless violence. He has directed the deployment of a delegation led by the deputy governor to support victims and ensure medical care for the injured.

The incident comes days after a similar attack in the area, as security forces say they have also launched counter-operations, killing several suspected bandits during clashes in Tsafe Local Government Area.
