Cross River Confirms New COVID-19 Case, Activates Response

The Cross River State Government has confirmed a new case of COVID-19 involving a 53-year-old Chinese national working with Lafarge in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

The state commissioner for health, Henry Ayuk, said the patient arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and developed symptoms in April, before testing positive at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital after his condition worsened.

Authorities say the emergency response team has been activated, with contact tracing underway and rapid response teams deployed to Akamkpa to contain the spread.
