Health authorities in Cross River State have dismissed reports of 10 new COVID-19 cases, confirming that only one case has been recorded. The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, gave the clarification on Thursday.
He said the confusion arose from reports that 10 contacts of the infected individual had been identified, which were mistakenly interpreted as confirmed cases. The commissioner stressed that there is no wider outbreak at this time.
The confirmed case involves a Chinese national who arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and later travelled to Calabar, where he tested positive on April 17 after showing symptoms. He is currently receiving treatment at an isolation centre and is said to be responding well.

Authorities say all identified contacts are being monitored, while emergency response structures have been activated across the state to prevent further spread of the virus.
