Tinubu Attributes Nigeria’s Challenges to Poor Long Term Planning

President Bola Tinubu has attributed Nigeria’s development challenges to poor long-term planning by past administrations. He made this known on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a delegation of Enugu State stakeholders led by Governor Peter Mbah. The president said previous governments often relied on short-term funding to execute long-term projects, a mismatch he noted had slowed sustainable growth.

Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, pointing to what he described as committed and visionary leadership at the state level. He commended the Enugu State government for progress in security, infrastructure, education and healthcare, noting that ongoing reforms are beginning to produce measurable results.

The president also assured the delegation of continued collaboration between the Federal Government and states to drive development across the country. He highlighted key projects, including the Port Harcourt to Enugu rail line, power sector reforms and other infrastructure initiatives, stressing that development requires coordinated efforts at all levels of government.

Earlier, Governor Peter Mbah said the visit was to appreciate federal interventions in Enugu State and to reaffirm support for the current administration. He listed major projects such as the concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the establishment of the South East Development Commission and ongoing road and rail developments. Mbah added that improvements in security and investments in critical sectors are enhancing livelihoods, while pledging continued support from the people of Enugu.
