Ibom Air says the cost of fuelling a single domestic flight has risen sharply to about N7.6 million, up from N2.1 million in January. The airline says the increase of more than 350 percent within seven weeks is putting severe pressure on operations across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In a statement on Monday, the airline’s Group Manager for Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette, said the rise in Jet A1 fuel prices is unprecedented, despite the carrier operating one of the most fuel-efficient fleets in the country.
The development comes amid ongoing disruption to domestic flight schedules, with several airlines reporting delays and cancellations linked to fuel scarcity and high costs. Industry sources say some operators may scale down or suspend services if the situation continues.
