A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a no-case submission filed by Omoyele Sowore in his alleged cybercrime trial brought by the Department of State Services.
Trial judge, Mohammed Garba Umar, ruled that the DSS had established a prima facie case requiring Sowore to enter a defence. The activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters is facing a 2-count charge linked to an August 25 social media post in which he described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a criminal. He has pleaded not guilty.
Following the ruling, Sowore accused the judge of bias and alleged collusion with the Federal Government to stop him from contesting the 2027 elections. His lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, also asked the judge to withdraw from the case and return the file for reassignment.

In response, Justice Umar directed Sowore to file a formal application for recusal and adjourned the matter until May 19 for the defence to open its case.
