Court Orders Sowore Remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of an application challenging the revocation of his bail.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order on Monday and also dismissed an application by Sowore seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case over allegations of bias.

The court subsequently adjourned proceedings until June 24 to hear a motion for a stay of execution of the order revoking Sowore’s bail and the bench warrant issued for his arrest. The application was filed by his new lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN.

Justice Umar had revoked Sowore’s bail on June 16 after he failed to appear for trial. The Department of State Services is prosecuting him over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.
