Loyalists of former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, under the aegis of the BATOGD Movement, have announced their withdrawal from the primary for the 2027 All Progressives Congress Ogun East Senate race slated for Monday. According to them, some agents of the state government plan to unleash violence on their supporters.
In a statement on Sunday signed by 35 members, including General Olumuyiwa Okunowo, retired, Akogun Kola Onadipe, Otunba Fatai Sowemimo and Prince Segun Seriki, the group said they have advised their principal, Senator Daniel, to distance himself from the senatorial party primary elections. The group also advised their supporters to stay away from the venues of the senatorial party primary election scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026, for their own safety.
The statement said that since joining the APC some years ago, they believe they have added value to the party, but what they have experienced in recent times is at variance with the principles of a democratic system, where fair play is the minimum expectation. The group claimed they have seen agents of the state government threatening fire and brimstone against their supporters, and that they do not believe in good conscience that they should subject their people to unnecessary danger and mayhem.Â

The contest for the Ogun East Senate ticket has been central to the feud between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun. Reacting to the allegations, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described the BATOGD Movement’s allegations as baseless and frivolous.
