Abducted Oyo Principal Begs Government for Rescue

The abducted principal of Community Grammar School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs Rachael Alamu, has spoken from captivity, begging the Federal Government and Governor Seyi Makinde to come to their rescue, in a disturbing video that surfaced online on Sunday.

In the video, Mrs Alamu said she and a number of staff and students were abducted on Friday around 9:30 in the morning when a group of people on motorbikes attacked the Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, the Community Grammar School in Ahoro Esinele and L A Primary School, all in Oriire Local Government Area. A staff member was reportedly killed during the attack, while the principal and scores of pupils were taken, prompting the state government to shut down schools in the affected areas.

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Saturday visited some of the affected communities and expressed concern over the incident, extending condolences to the families of victims who lost their lives during the attack. The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed in a statement that the suspected kidnappers have been trapped within a section of the Old Oyo National Park, as security operatives intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.

Oyelade said security agencies have sealed all possible escape routes to prevent the suspects from fleeing into neighbouring states, and that the attackers are currently confined within the national park axis following coordinated operations involving the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defence Agro Rangers and the Amotekun Corps. The state government assured residents that rescue efforts are ongoing.
