The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed that 39 residents of the Magamin Diddi area of Maradun Local Government Area were abducted after visiting a bandit camp in the Fadama Forest on Sunday for what was described as reconciliation and peaceful engagement.
Police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said in a statement that the district head of Magamin Diddi informed the command that the mass abduction occurred on Sunday at about 3 pm, when a group of 47 residents mobilised themselves and proceeded to the forest to meet with the parents of a notorious bandit leader identified as Jimo Smally.
However, while the meeting was ongoing, the bandit kingpin allegedly arrived at the location with members of his gang and forcefully abducted 39 members of the group to an unknown destination. Upon receiving the report, the command immediately launched efforts to track down the victims and ensure their safe rescue.
