Equatorial Guinea cabinet resigns over missed targets

The government of Equatorial Guinea has resigned after failing to meet its performance targets, according to the country’s Vice-President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Mangue said the cabinet had achieved only about 10 percent of its objectives, prompting its resignation. He said public office must be matched by measurable results and described the level of implementation as inadequate.

The outgoing administration was appointed in 2024 by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has led the country since 1979. The government was headed by Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua and was tasked with implementing economic reforms and improving living conditions.

The ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea said the president was dissatisfied with the government’s performance, particularly its failure to diversify the economy beyond oil and gas. A new cabinet is expected to be appointed.
