Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been banned from professional tennis for four years after refusing to provide an anti-doping sample during an out-of-competition test. The decision was announced on Monday, 22 June 2026, by the sport’s anti-doping authorities.
The 26-year-old Czech player did not submit a sample when a doping control officer visited her home in December last year. An independent tribunal considered her explanation, including claims of stress and safety concerns, but ruled there was no compelling justification for refusing the test.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency confirmed the suspension will run until 21 June 2030. During this period, Vondrousova is barred from competing in, coaching at, or attending events organised by the ITF, WTA, ATP, the Grand Slams, and national associations. She is expected to consider whether to appeal the ruling.
Vondrousova won the Wimbledon women’s singles title in 2023 as an unseeded player and reached a career-high world ranking of number six the same year. She has won three WTA singles titles and also reached the French Open final in 2019.
