3 university students abducted in Lafia

Three students of the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State have been abducted from an off-campus hostel. The incident occurred on Tuesday night with police rescuing one victim during an ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said the students were taken from Living Seed Lodge, an off-campus hostel in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university’s residential community. The university’s Chief Security Officer alerted police at about 9:20 p.m. after armed men invaded the lodge and seized the students.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units and patrol teams, who launched a coordinated search through the surrounding forest, leading to one student’s rescue. Efforts continue to recover the remaining two victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel said all operational and intelligence units have been directed to maintain pressure on the perpetrators, urging residents to remain calm and share credible information.

The university has recorded similar abductions in nearby off-campus communities before, a pattern linked to limited on-campus hostel space forcing students into more exposed, poorly secured accommodation nearby.
