Northern groups demand similar intervention in Borno,  Kaduna, and other states

The rescue of 44 kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo State has intensified pressure on the Federal Government to launch similar operations for hundreds of other Nigerians still held captive nationwide.

Northern groups, including the Arewa Consultative Forum and Northern Elders Forum, along with the African Democratic Congress, urged President Tinubu to replicate the intelligence-led Oyo operation in Borno, Kaduna and Kwara states.

In Borno, families say they’ve received no updates on 78 schoolchildren abducted in two separate Boko Haram attacks on Mussa and Lassa schools since May. In Kwara, 176 women and children remain missing five months after a deadly February raid on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama. In Kaduna’s Ariko community, dozens of worshippers abducted during an Easter Sunday church attack remain in captivity, with families saying kidnappers are still demanding ₦1 billion and 35 motorcycles.

Responding, presidential aide Temitope Ajayi said Tinubu has directed security agencies to rescue every Nigerian in captivity “irrespective of location,” insisting rescue operations happen “every day” across the country.
