A fragile pause in US-Iran hostilities appeared to hold into Monday, after the US halted strikes for a second straight day and Tehran said it had done the same, as diplomats work to revive an interim ceasefire deal.
The US brought a halt to nearly two weeks of strikes on Friday, following an escalation sparked by Iran firing on ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. It remains unclear why the pause began. Iran has denied media reports that it agreed to a 10-day ceasefire specifically, even as both sides appear to be holding fire for now.
The broader ceasefire framework, agreed in June, has been repeatedly undermined by exchanges of fire since. Life in Tehran continues under nightly air defence activations, as the region watches to see whether this pause holds or the conflict resumes.
