Residents say 32 killed in bandit attack on Sokoto's Ungushi community

Residents say at least 32 people were killed when bandits attacked Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in an assault that reportedly began during Friday prayers and continued into Saturday.

According to one community leader who took part in burying the victims, attackers on motorcycles opened fire in the town after dispersing worshippers at a mosque, later returning multiple times to kill more residents. He said 13 attackers were also killed by residents.

The figures are unconfirmed by police, with Sokoto’s Commissioner of Police saying the command had no details beyond a military visit to the area.

The attack follows Friday’s assault on nearby Kebbe town, where over 300 suspected Lakurawa militants reportedly killed some soldiers. The Army’s 8 Division says it has repositioned troops in the area following the unrest.
