The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has invited 29 athletes to a national training camp in Abuja as preparations begin for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, AFN Media Coordinator Kola Oredipe said the squad, made up of 14 men and 15 women, was selected mainly from performances at the national trials held at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, with some athletes included based on recent records after missing the trials due to visa issues.
The team is headlined by Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Favour Ashe, alongside other top athletes including Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Samuel Ogazi.
AFN President Tonobok Okowa said the camp will provide focused preparation for the Games, with Nigeria expected to compete in 18 track and field events, including the men’s and women’s 4×100 metres relays and the mixed 4×400 metres relay.
