AFN Names Amusan, Ashe, 43 Others for African Championships

AFN Names Amusan, Ashe, 43 Others for African Championships

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has named a 45-member squad for the 2026 Confederation of African Athletics Senior Championships in Ghana, with world record holder Tobi Amusan and sprinter Favour Ashe leading the team.

The championships will take place from May 12 to 17 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra. The Nigerian contingent includes 25 women and 20 men competing in track and field events.

Amusan will compete in the women’s 100 metres hurdles alongside Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday, while Rosemary Chukwuma leads Nigeria’s women’s sprint and relay team. On the men’s side, Ashe will headline the 100 metres and 4×100 relay squad alongside Enoch Adegoke and Chidera Ezeakor.

The Athletics Federation says the team combines experienced international athletes with emerging talents as Nigeria aims to improve on its third-place finish at the last edition of the championships in Douala.
