Aviation unions shut down Air Peace’s operations in Lagos and Abuja on Tuesday, barricading terminals over unremitted ticket charges and anti-union practices, stranding passengers nationwide.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, the Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, say Air Peace failed to allow workers to unionise and remit a mandatory 5% Ticket Sales Charge to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.
Union leaders warned the action could spread to all domestic airports if unresolved.
The NCAA appealed for restraint pending Minister Festus Keyamo’s return, noting airline operators skipped a resolution meeting last week. United Nigeria Airlines suspended its own operations in solidarity.
