The Trade Union Congress has thrown its full support behind striking aviation workers, demanding airlines remit about 25 billion naira in withheld ticket charges. TUC President Festus Osifo made the call at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
Aviation unions shut down airline operations in Lagos and Abuja Tuesday morning, barricading terminals and stranding passengers, particularly Air Peace flyers.
Union leaders described the morning’s action as only “phase one” of a wider campaign, warning they’ll target other domestic carriers next, without specifying which. The unions say the picketing stems from unremitted ticket sales charges and restrictions on workers’ right to unionise.
