A group of elder statesmen and prominent Nigerians under the aegis of The Patriots has raised concerns over worsening insecurity, rising poverty, and what it describes as the erosion of national values ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known in a communiqué issued after a meeting at its secretariat in Lagos, signed by its chairman, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and secretary-general, Olawale Okunniyi. It reviewed the state of the nation and preparations for the 2027 polls.
The Patriots condemned continued killings, kidnappings, and armed attacks across parts of the country, noting that insecurity persists in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central, while spreading into parts of the South-West. It urged the federal government to treat insecurity as a national emergency.

The group also cited National Bureau of Statistics figures indicating that about 63 percent of Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty. It called for constitutional reform, improved electoral integrity, and issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
