Army Arrests 12 Linked to Terror Group in Kainji Lake Offensive

The Nigerian Army has arrested 12 individuals suspected of links to a splinter faction of Boko Haram, known as Mahmuda, during ongoing operations around Kainji Lake National Park.

The group is accused of terrorising residents in border communities spanning Baruten and Kaiama in Kwara State, and Borgu in Niger State. Military sources say two of the detainees are confirmed fighters, while the others are believed to have supported their activities.

Major General Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, made the disclosure during a field visit to troops in Kwara State. His visit aimed to assess progress and boost morale among personnel engaged in the operation.

The crackdown follows a direct order from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who tasked troops with dismantling the group within a month. Security operations remain ongoing across forested and border regions to flush out remaining militants.
