The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the Federal Government to ensure that the newly approved Nigeria First Policy aligns with regional and continental trade commitments, particularly the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA.
In a statement, Director-General Mrs. Chinyere Almona warned that the policy must emphasise strategic diplomacy and competitiveness rather than protectionism.
The policy, endorsed by the Federal Executive Council, seeks to boost local production, support indigenous businesses, and cut import dependency.

However, the LCCI stressed that its effectiveness hinges on coherent execution, structural reform, and institutional integrity.
Mrs. Almona called for a realistic economic framework backed by legal clarity and strong governance. She added that for local industries to thrive, targeted infrastructure investment, accessible credit, and a more business-friendly environment are essential.
The Chamber believes Nigeria’s trade posture must reflect both national interest and global obligations.
