Atiku Criticises Tinubu Over Insecurity Remarks

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over remarks that insecurity would not prevent him from seeking re-election. In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Mr Abubakar described the President’s comments as troubling.

President Tinubu had earlier said he would pursue a second term despite security challenges, adding that attempts to use insecurity to force him out of office would fail. In response, Mr Abubakar said governance should be defined by responsibility and action, not defiance.

He accused the administration of failing in its primary duty to protect lives and property, claiming that more than 10,000 people have been killed since Mr Tinubu took office, with some estimates placing the figure above 18,000. He also criticised what he described as the government’s inadequate response to recent attacks, including the killing of a pastor and the abduction of worshippers in Ekiti State.

Mr Abubakar called for a review of the government’s security strategy, saying public trust must be earned through effective leadership. He added that Nigerians would ultimately judge the administration based on its handling of security and other challenges.
