JAMB Ends Degree Admissions in Colleges of Education

JAMB dismisses viral 394 UTME score

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has ended admissions into affiliated degree programmes run by colleges of education across Nigeria from the 2026/2027 academic session.

Under the new policy, announced in JAMB’s 2026 NCE and ND Agriculture Registration Guidelines, all candidates seeking admission into colleges of education will now be required to enter through the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programme. The board also ruled out direct admission into the 100 and 200 levels for new entrants.

JAMB said candidates who had already applied for affiliated degree programmes may transfer to the parent universities overseeing those programmes, change institutions at no cost, or switch to the NCE pathway. The board added that candidates choosing the NCE option must complete O-Level verification and pay the prescribed registration fees.

According to JAMB, the policy is aimed at reinforcing the NCE as the foundational qualification for teacher education in Nigeria. The board directed colleges of education, accredited CBT centres and their officials nationwide to ensure full compliance with the new guidelines.
