British actor David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther, playing an adult version of T’Challa’s son in “Black Panther 3,” Marvel Studios confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con.
Director Ryan Coogler announced the casting alongside a December 15, 2028 release date, revealing the film will be shot entirely on 70mm celluloid, a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jonsson’s character, Prince T’Challa II, was introduced as a child at the end of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” the son of the late Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia.
“Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honour and the privilege and the blessing to join,” Jonsson told the crowd, which erupted into applause and Wakanda chants. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are both confirmed to return, alongside previously announced cast member Denzel Washington.
