The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an Aviation Security officer, Inspector Ali Baffa, and two accomplices at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport over an alleged attempt to smuggle unprocessed gold bars worth over ₦4.4 billion out of Nigeria. The suspect was intercepted during a surveillance operation on Thursday, with investigators saying he concealed about 22.2 kilograms of gold in his trousers.
The EFCC also arrested two other suspects linked to the operation, including an alleged supplier of the gold and another accomplice found with multiple foreign currencies. The commission says all suspects are in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
