The Federal Government has launched the disbursement of consumer credit to market women in Abia State through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP.
Speaking in Aba, CREDICORP Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba—represented by Executive Director Aisha Abdullahi—said the scheme aims to expand financial inclusion and improve living standards by offering Nigerians interest-free consumer credit of up to ₦2 million.
The initiative, which began in April, operates through partnerships with financial institutions and fintech firms, rather than direct lending to individuals.
One such partner, Sytiamo Technologies, will manage distribution in Ariaria Main Market, where 20,000 traders are expected to benefit.
Sytiamo’s Managing Director, Michael Ogba, assured that funds would be accessible to verified traders, while market leaders pledged to ensure repayment.
The government sees the scheme as a strategic move to deepen credit access and stimulate grassroots economic activity.
